Prophecy of the Birth of Jesus

randyMc_1_cropRandy McCarthy reads about the birth of the Lord Jesus as set forth in the gospels of Matthew 1-2 and Luke 1-2.  In these accounts, Randy outlines 16 different Old Testament Prophecies that were fulfilled by the coming of Christ, the promised Messiah (King):

 

  1. the coming of a herald (John the Baptist) to announce the advent of the Messiah – Malachi 4:5-6
  2. the Messiah would come in the form of a human child, who would be the Son of God  – Isaiah 9:6;
  3. the Messiah would be born of a virgin – Isaiah 7:14;
  4. the Messiah would be the son of Abraham – Gen 17:7-8;
  5. the Messiah would be the son of Issac – Gen 22:17-18;
  6. the Messiah would be the son of Jacob – Gen 26:3;
  7. the Messiah would be the son of Judah – Gen 49:10;
  8. the Messiah would be the son of Jesse – Isaiah 11:5;
  9. the Messiah would be the son of David and sit on his father’s throne – Isaiah 9:7; Isaiah 16:5;
  10. the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem of Judah – Micah 5:2;
  11. angels would rejoice in His birth – Psalm 97:7;
  12. the Messiah would be a light unto the Gentiles and the glory of His people Israel – Isaiah 42;
  13. Gentile kings would come and honor the Messiah – Isaiah 60:3;
  14. the birth of Messiah would trigger the slaughter of children in the vicinity of Bethlehem – Jeremiah 31:15;
  15. God would call His Son from Egypt – Hosea 11:1; and
  16. the Messiah would be called a Nazarene – Isaiah 9:1-2; Isaiah 11:10.
