Randy McCarthy examines the priesthood of Jesus Christ, with reference to His call by God in Psalm 110:4 as a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.  After reviewing the history of Abraham’s encounter with this mysterious priest-king in Genesis 14, Randy examines Hebrews 4:14-5:10 and notes the following characteristics of Christ’s priesthood that are foreshadowed by Melchizedek:
- a perpetual priesthood;
 - one that is appointed by an oath of God;
 - a royal priesthood – that is, Christ is a Priest-King;
 - there is no priestly descent or succession with Christ;
 - the blessing of Abraham by Melchizedek shows the superiority of Christ’s priesthood to that of the Levitical priesthood under the Mosaic Law;
 - Abraham paid tithes to Melchizedek, further showing the superiority of Christ’s priesthood to the Levitical priesthood; and
 - Melchizedek refreshed Abraham with bread and wine, signifying the refreshment that Christ brings us as He ministers His priestly office.
