Palm Sunday

Randy McCarthy opened services reading from Psalm 118:18-29. “Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD.(Ps 118:26)

After prayer, Brother Randy continued speaking about the last week of Christ, leading up to his crucifixion and resurrection.  He began in Mark Chapter Eleven reading verses 1-11, about Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, which is the fulfillment of the OT prophecy found in Zechariah 9:9, “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.Brother Randy pointed out that in order for us to see the whole story we need to study this account in the other Gospels (Matt 21:1-17; Luke 19:28-48; John 12:12-19), to which he gave a very able summary of these Scriptures.

Allen Daniels continued commenting on Psalm 118: 18-29, “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

He then speaks on Old Testament prophecy about the coming of the Messiah.  He then speaks about the final days of Christ upon this earth, and even though they abused Him, scourged Him, crucified Him, and buried Him, He arose the third day, appearing numerous times in His glorified body, and after forty days, He ascended back into Heaven and sat down on the right hand of His Father. Brother Allen then speaks of the message that the Apostle Paul preached concerning these “Last Days” and the Second Coming of Christ, not as a lowly man riding upon the fold of an ass, but as the Triumphant King riding upon a White Horse conquering His enemies and taking judgement upon those who are NOT written in the Book of Life.

How does faith work? “…through faith we understand..””…but without faith it is impossible to please God ….”    Knowledge and belief make our faith stronger; we believe in that which we know exists, but we must also trust in the source of our knowledge and belief; therefore, knowledge, belief, and trust are key aspects of our faith.

Mark – Appearance of Jesus after the Resurrection

Bro Mark discusses some of the appearances of the Lord Jesus after his resurrection. He notes the women and the two disciples traveling to Emmaus were not believed when they first told the disciples the Lord is alive. However, it did not take much time to convince even Thomas that the Lord is risen indeed!

Randy McCarthy – An Early Easter Message

randyMc_1_cropRandy McCarthy

Randy examines several intricate and highly detailed prophecies in the Old Testament regarding the events surrounding the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus, including prophecies set forth in Isaiah 53, Psalm 22 and Zechariah Chapter 11.  Randy focuses particularly upon Zechariah Chapter 11, where the Lord reveals, 550 years in advance, the coming of the Lord Jesus as King of the Jews, and how that the Jewish Nation would reject Him.  God foretells that they would value Him as the price of a slave (30 pieces of silver), and that this money would be thrown in the temple and ultimately given to a potter.  While this prophecy is rather obscure and was not well understood by the saints of old, these events became completely clear through Judas Iscariot, who returned the money he had received to betray Jesus by casting it onto the temple floor.  The Pharisees ultimately used the money to purchase the potter’s field to have a place to bury strangers in, thereby fulfilling that aspect of the prophecy.  Zechariah Chapter 11 also foretells that, because of their rejection of Jesus as King, God delivers the nation to “their king,” which was Caesar who destroyed the Temple and scattered the people roughly 40 years later in AD 70.  Randy also briefly examines the telling description of the death, burial and triumphant resurrection of Christ as foretold in Isaiah 53, and discusses how that the Lord called out the first line of Psalm 22 psalm while hanging on the cross to direct us to see the fulfillment of those prophecies as well.

Old Testament Prophecy of Jesus

randyMc_1_cropRandy McCarthy

Introduction:  1Cor 15:1-8

On the day that Jesus was raised from the dead, He began opening the understanding of his disciples to the OT scriptures which foretold the suffering, death, burial and resurrection of Christ (Luke 24:13-47).

Randy examined several prophecies in the writings of Moses (first five books of the OT) that demonstrate a suffering and triumphant Messiah, including the seed of the woman in Genesis 3, the offering of Isaac in Genesis 22 and the eight day festival of Passover (Exodus 12, Leviticus 23).   With regard to the Passover, Jesus’s death was represented by the paschal lamb offered on the first day of the Passover feast and his glorified resurrection represented by the first fruits offering on the third day of the Passover feast (1 Cor 15:20).
