David’s Lamentation: The Story of Absalom

And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!

How does faith work? “…through faith we understand..””…but without faith it is impossible to please God ….”    Knowledge and belief make our faith stronger; we believe in that which we know exists, but we must also trust in the source of our knowledge and belief; therefore, knowledge, belief, and trust are key aspects of our faith.

The Sovereignty of God in Election

In this message Brother Mark reminds us the sovereignty of God affects the choosing out of God’s children, the doctrine we call election. In Ezekiel, Brother Mark speaks about the will of God as he passed by and declared, “Live!” Our natural state of sin prohibits us from entering in to God’s eternal kingdom but thank God he exercised His sovereignty and adopted us. Eph 1:4-5; Ezek 16:1-6; Genesis 12:1-4; Deut 7:6-9; Rom 9:11-13; John 6:32-44

The Name of God | The Sovereignty of God

randyMc_1_cropRandy McCarthy talks about The Name of God.

markwMark Wattenbarger reminds us the sovereignty of God involves His acts of will especially in the work of salvation.  If God speaks, it stands fast.  Beginning in Psa. 40:5, Brother Mark speaks of the declaration of a sovereign God who says man at his best is vanity.

Liberty in Jesus

randyMc_1_cropRandy McCarthy introduces services by reading Philippians 1:1-11. In this thank you note written to the Church at Philippi, Paul rejoices in the fellowship in Christ Jesus he has enjoyed with the saints there, and the joy they have had together in the Lord.  Paul identifies four areas in which he encourages the church to continue to grow in their devotion to Christ: to abound in love, to approve those things that are excellent, to be sincere and without offense, and to be filled with the fruits of righteousness.

markwMark Wattenbarger speaks of the liberty that we have in Christ Jesus, teaching from Galatians 3:1-5.  Mark echoes Paul’s charge that it is “foolish” to think that we can add to, or in any way contribute to, the eternal redemption that has been given us through the perfect work of Jesus Christ the Lord.  Instead, God has called us to walk in righteousness as a result of the great gift of God’s Son.

Doing All Things Well

After reading some history of (American) Thanksgiving [Washington’s Thanksgiving Proclamation], Mark reminds us the reason for our ability to give thanks each day is the sure truth that God always does everything right and well.(Mark 7:20-23, 31-37); (Gen 4:1-8)

Communion Service – Nov. 2014

randyMc_1_cropRandy McCarthy introduced services reading from Hebrews 12 (Heb 12:12-15), then read from Acts 3 (Acts 3:1-16,22-26)

Mark – A Nation on Our Knees

markwMark Wattenbarger

Brother Mark reads the letter from Jeremiah to the Israelite population in Babylon from Jeremiah Chapter 29 and reminds us of the prophet’s message to God’s people who were carried away by that wicked empire. He draws a parallel to our own time and plainly declares God’s people today are also in captivity and it is once again a captivity of our own making. However, for God’s people there is always hope even in the midst of a perverse generation.

Saints of God

Brother Mark reads from Ephesians and reminds us the most fearsome and the most wondrous name we bear is Saint.  To sanctify ourselves in the service of God is to make our daily lives line up with the sayings of Jesus our Lord.  Brother Mark reminds us from 1 Peter to be vigilant in our lives and in our conduct that we may truly be lively stones in the living Temple of God.
